"My family & I all use this dentist and they are great. My children are seen by Lynsey the childsmile nurse every 6 months and she is great with them. She shows them how they should be brushing their teeth in a fun & friendly way"
Dental examinations (check ups) are short appointments where we check the health of the teeth, the gums and the soft tissues in and around the mouth. For children we also check that their teeth are properly aligned and if we have any concerns we will normally refer to an orthodontist for an expert opinion. Many children need braces to help align their teeth.
Currently NHS examinations are free for all patients.
We normally invite patients in for an examination every 6 months although some patients only require annual ‘check ups’. Your dentist will always begin an examination by asking if you have any problems or concerns about your teeth or mouth.
Guidelines suggest that x rays should be taken periodically to screen for dental problems that may not be visible to the dentist.
Your dentist will advise you if he/she thinks x rays are indicated.
Treatment is not normally carried out at an examination appointment.
